Amalio Telenti is a physician-scientist known for his work in genomics and infectious disease research. He spent much of his academic career at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, where he served as professor and director of the Institute of Microbiology and built a research program in host-pathogen genomics. In 2014 he joined Craig Venter’s Human Longevity, Inc. as Chief Scientific Officer, where he led analysis of the first 10,000 deep-sequenced human genomes and helped define maps of regulatory conservation and a catalog of essential human genes.
In 2017 he joined Scripps Research in La Jolla as professor of genomics and chief data scientist at the Scripps Research Translational Institute. In 2019 he moved to Vir Biotechnology, rising to Executive Vice President and Chief Data Officer. In 2025, he founded Trail Biomed, a Swiss company, serving as Founder and CEO, aimed at advancing global health through innovative therapeutics using AI and data science. His research centers on human genomics, machine learning applied to omics data, host-pathogen interactions, and clinical and real-world medical data analysis. He is an elected member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences and a Clarivate highly cited author.
