Commitments
Scientific integrity
At the Institute of Human Genetics, scientific integrity is a core value that underpins all research activities. We are fully committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in the design, execution, and communication of our science. This commitment is actively promoted through transparent research practices, open discussions, and the careful oversight of data management and authorship.
To ensure these principles are passed on to future generations, young scientists, from students to postdoctoral researchers, are encouraged to participate in integrity training that emphasizes responsibility, reproducibility, and respect in collaborative research. Regular seminars, workshops, and open dialogue within research teams help foster a culture of honesty and accountability. In doing so, IGH not only safeguards the credibility of its research but also prepares future scientists to act with ethical awareness and social responsibility.
Parity
At IGH, parity means fostering an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of gender identity, background, origin, or career stage, can thrive and contribute fully to our collective scientific mission. Through concrete actions and an open culture of respect, we aim to make IGH a model of fairness, diversity, and equal opportunity in research.
Among our 21 research teams, 4 are currently led by women, and we are steadily working to reduce this imbalance. In recent years, a new female principal investigator has joined the institute, and this positive trend will continue with the arrival of another female-led team and two additional female junior principal investigators in 2026. This evolution reflects our proactive yet organic commitment to ensuring fair representation at all levels of scientific leadership.
Environment
At IGH, respect for the environment is a shared priority and an integral part of our institutional culture. Through the creation of a dedicated Green Committee, we have implemented concrete measures to reduce the institute’s ecological footprint and raise environmental awareness among all staff. Initiatives such as campus clean-up days strengthen our community’s collective commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
We have also transformed our campus into a bike-friendly environment, adding new secure bicycle parking areas to promote eco-friendly commuting, an effort that earned the campus the Gold Medal for Sustainable Mobility (EOPV). In addition, a recent carbon impact study led by one of our staff members revealed that purchases account for a substantial share of our emissions. In response, we have expanded the use of our shared procurement system through the IGH shop, streamlining orders, reducing deliveries, and minimizing the overall environmental impact of our operations.
We remain committed to advancing these initiatives to make IGH an increasingly sustainable, responsible, and forward-looking research institute.
